5Fantastic flashlight, similar to Fenix LD10Nov 22, 2009
By D. Calderwood
This review compares this light, the L1T, to a very similar Fenix product, the LD10.

The Fenix LD10 is similar to the Fenix L1T; both use a single AA battery to produce a stunning amount of light. The main differences are in modes and selecting them. The LD10 starts in either standard mode or turbo mode, depending on whether the front bezel is fully tightened or slightly loosened. In turbo mode you get the highest possible light (120 lumens), in standard mode it always starts in the lowest setting (9 lumens). Other modes have to be toggled by momentarily pressing the on/off switch. The L1T simply has two modes (98 lumens and 16 lumens), chosen by turning the bezel.

The on/off differs between the LD10 and L1T. The LD10 requires a complete push-to-click, then the light operates on release. The L1T comes on as you press the button, before the "click." This means that it's possible to press the L1T's button, get light, and release it to stop the light (momentary on/off), something the LD10 does not allow.

The LD10's toggling through modes also is a little annoying if you accidentally move from 120 lumens on turbo mode to strobe by pressing the button momentarily and not getting the button to "click."

Basically, if the slightly lower and higher modes and slightly longer promised operation of the LD10 are important, or if the LD10's ability to stand on its tail is necessary, get the LD10. If none of this is a key, the L1T is simpler to use and a bit smaller and lighter. Both are great flashlights. On high they light up a back yard better than a 5 D-cell traditional flashlight. Pairing either with the Fenix headband is a great way to have versatility and hands-free light when doing projects and such.

5Engineering PerfectionDec 18, 2009

Fenix has done it again.

Fenix in my opinion is one of if not the best flashlight companies in the world as of my writing this. I now own a fenix E01 (1aaa cell light), Fenix LD20, and now the L1T v.2. All three are of incredibly high quality and surely will last a lifetime. Even as LED lights continue to get better these lights will never not be useful.

I have a LD20 with it's multiple output modes and it is ergonomic and awesome, but I wanted a better light for carrying around in my pocket or coat. I though about an LD10 which I know from reviews is basically a smaller LD20. Sounds great, but I chose the L1T over the LD10 for several reason: (keep in mind both are 1aa lights)

-More simplicity -- fewer modes of output
-Slightly smaller
-Weighs less
-Cheaper
-No clip (I actually don't like the clips on the "newer" LD10 and LD20
-More round (i.e. fits hand well--I haven't actually held the LD10 though so this could be up in the air)

I thought about ergonomics and just from looking at both lights I thought I would like this one better. The only things I don't like about the light or at least things that could be improved are:

-can't stand on tail like a candle
-needs a little more knurling for grip (still feels great in hand though-- could just be better)
-the lanyard hole is kind of hard to put a lanyard though (not an issue because I don't plan on using one with this light)

If you own a LD20 then I can tell you the high mode on this light is just slightly less bright than the "high" mode on that light. And it may vary, but the tint is slightly less warm than the LD20. Oh and 15 hours on low is amazing--yeah I know the LD10 is better, but if you poo poo 15 hours on one aa light you are an idiot either way :) . Low mode is about as bright as a streamlight micro or streamlight stylus pro.

Overall I would rate this light 9.5 out of 10. I think for any product to be 10/10 it almost inherently has to be custom. A company can't satisfy everybody completely, but this light is pretty darn close to perfect considering technology at this point in time.

5Great LightOct 14, 2009
By James K. Price
This is a great small flashlight. I wear it and use it every day. Ordered another for backup, just in case I need it. Ordered the L2T first, liked it and found this one later. The L1T fits better on your belt and is out of the way. It will roll, that is the only fault I can find with this light.

5the new LED lights are amazingMay 19, 2010
By ChefBum "chefbum"
The new LED lights are amazing in terms of light output and efficient use of battery life. The Fenix L1T v2.0 is no exception.

I also have the Fenix LD20 R4, the Streamlight Stylus Pro, Icon Modus 2, LED Lenser P14, and Fenix E01. All take standard batteries ranging from 2xAA (LD20R4 and Modus 2) to 1xAAA (E01). All of them are good or great lights, but this one might be the best of them all in terms of overall usability.

I love the small form factor and the fact that the L1T takes only one AA battery. It pumps out a good amount of light on the 'low' setting, which is rated for 16 lumens over 15 hours. The turbo setting, which is accessed by twisting the head unit, is a very bright 98 lumens over 1.5 hours.

The 'tactical' pushbutton on the end of the unit has a forward clickie (for momentary on flashes) and is easier to activate than the twist-head turn-on action of the smaller AAA units.

The light produced on even the low setting is bright enough for around-the house tasks at night and produces a very even, white quality of light. The 'turbo' setting is bright enough to spotlight and illuminate things at a distance outdoors and is just amazing when you consider how small this light is and the fact that it is powered by just a single AA battery. These two modes are well chosen, and this light could be the only one you ever need... all in a package small enough to carry around in a bag or purse all day without noticing it's even there. In fact, while it is not quite as bright as the LD20 R4 on its high or turbo setting, it compares favorably with all the other lights and I can actually see myself using this unit more than even the LD20 because of its size and ease and simplicity of use. The LD20 R4 is a GREAT light, but it is bigger and more expensive. The LD20 R4 is the one light I would want to have if I ever had to survive outdoors, but it is also arguably more complicated to use than the L1T v2.0 and is probably overkill in most everyday situations.

So operation of this light is super simple: two modes (high, 98 lumens, low, 16 lumens), on/off with a rear pushbutton and high/low selected by a twist of the head unit.

The unit also comes with an alternative yellow pushbutton cap, which I believe allows for backward clickie and tailstanding. It also comes with a couple of extra o-ring replacement gaskets and a lanyard and ballistic nylon holster with belt clip and nylon ring. Both the lanyard and the belt clip are very useful and fit the unit perfectly. Since the unit is so small, both the holster and the lanyard help protect the L1T from being dropped or scratched when not in use.

This flashlight is not inexpensive, but it is an example of how technology has enabled such amazing and potent products such as this one to be available to just about anybody. The Fenix L1T v2.0 is worth every penny and then some, because the technology, quality, and design are first-rate.

Excellent output, Very compact. Good battery life. Two power levels with easy switching between them is a major advantage.
