These have a special prototype MOP (medium orange peel) texture reflector to smooth out the beam. Also, they have a special engraving to indicate it's special and limited production status: Premium Q5 These are not regularly stocked items. These are only available while supplies last. he Fenix P1D CE(Cree Edition) is a digitally controlled constant current multilevel flashlight Fenix has to offer. It has five modes: Primary -> Max -> Low -> Strobe Mode -> SOS Mode, which not only allows the user to select the best compromise between brightness and runtime for any given task but also has ability to aid in an emergency. The P1D CE does all this and still retains a very compact size. If you're looking for solid reliability, digitally regulated brightness, and compact size, this Fenix is for you. Features ? Durable Type III hard anodized finish ? 27-gram (or 1.0 oz) weight (excluding batteries) ? Water-resistant (dunkable) ? Toughened ultra clear glass lens with AR coating ? Reliable twist switch ? 5Extremely Bright Cree XR-E "Q5 Bin" LED Light Using a Primary CR123A BatteryFeb 11, 2008
By E. Kim
This flashlight is among the smallest LED flashlights using a single CR123A battery. The fit and finish are very good. The HAIII anodizing was even and complete. The threads were clean and smooth. It comes with keychain "claw" hook, spare O-ring, and a holster.

The output is extremely bright as is typical of all the Cree XR-E Q5 bin lights. The tint is pretty much pure white. The reflector that came with my light is a "light orange peel", meaning that it is textured so that the beam is smoother, without the "rings" that smooth reflectors will produce with Cree LEDs. Smooth reflectors will, however, give farther "throw" (or distance of the light beam).

The mechanism for this Fenix is a twisty. You twist the device on and its first setting is medium. If you want to change to the next setting, you turn it off and on again within 1.5 seconds. It will then bump to its highest setting of 180 lumens. Turn it on and off again and it goes to its lowest setting of 16 lumens, which is still quite bright for indoor use with a runtime of over 20 hours. The next 2 settings are not that useful but are its strobe and SOS settings. The advantage of this twisty mechanism is that it makes this flashlight shorter and smaller than the P2D-CE Q5 light which is similar, but is slightly longer to allow for a rear clicky mechanism. The P2D-CE Q5 also uses a slightly different driver which ironically in some tests make its highest setting not as bright as this P1D-CE Q5.

This light's driver was designed for use with a 3.0 volt primary (nonrechargeable) CR123A battery to use all 5 settings. You can use a rechargeable lithium ion battery with 3.7 to 3.6 volts, but what occurs is that all settings will now be at its highest output.

The only brighter LED at the time of this review is the just released "R2" bin of the Cree LEDs, but this has only slightly higher lumens per watt (although achieves the 100 lumens/watt milestone).

I am extremely happy with this very small CR123Ax1 light which is small enough for a keychain and bright enough for me to light up the side of a building over a 100 feet away.

5Unbelievable for it's small sizeNov 10, 2008
By SkinDiver
As a happy owner of other Fenix Premium lights, I decided to purchase this light after reading the reviews and specs. First off, the size of this light is amazing...it may be slightly heavy to keep on a keychain filled with "many" keys, but it easily slips into a pocket without even noticing it's there.

The output of this light is also truly amazing once you realize what a small package and "footprint" this light makes. The initial medium - setting is adequate for most jobs (like kneeling on the ground in a dark parking lot trying to see what's causing a tapping noise on one of your tires). Turbo mode is brighter than the medium setting, however, this light gets hot very fast running in Turbo mode for more than a few minutes. Battery life so far has been great although I haven't used this light for extended periods yet. The only downside I can mention is insignificant but noteworthy - twisting on / off with one hand can be challenging at times compared to the "clicky" switches on other larger Fenix models.

Overall, this light is a great ultra-compact and bright light...we currently keep it on our key counter so anyone going out at night can simply grab it and go. I recommend this light to anyone looking for a small and bright light and I hope to purchase additional units soon.

5P1D Q5 REVIEWFeb 07, 2008
By Joel W. Waitt
I have had the P1D Q5 for about 2 months now and I just can't get over how bright and compacted it is. there is nothing on the internet as small and as bright with the features that this little flashlight has look for your self, I look all the time and there is nothing out there. If you love flashlights you will be very inpressed with this little guy. It is pricey but worth It. Its like having the sun in you pocket.
thanks for your time.

5Best Little FlashlightSep 10, 2008
By G. Lietzke "Qapla' :)"
Great Flashlight, very small & has a great "throw" of light, I can see quite far away and very bright on the max settings. I bought these as gifts for family, mainly because we were so impressed with them. I use the rechargeable batteries which I bought from a manufacture of batteries from Cali. I have not had problems with the settings working. We have two each of these P1D and the larger version, P3D. I like the larger one when walking my dogs at night because it's easier to hold on to the flashlight with the strap around my wrist. But I always bring the smaller one as a back-up because when they quit they quit dead now, they do not dim out. If you have it on the highest setting and you see a flicker you have only seconds to put it on the lowest setting to see for a wile. I usually am not so quick, hence my bringing both on the evening dog walk. My husband favors the smaller featured one here as he is an Aircraft Inspector and it rather handy to keep in his pocket & whip out routinely. I did have to replace the smaller one due to loosing it as it came off my key chain. The lobster clasp is so easy to use but this time I elected to use two key chain rings with a swivel between them to hold my flashlight on my keychain. I found some decorative ones at the craft store. It takes more time to get it off the key chain but I will not loose it again. I recommend these little gems

5I would have done some things differentlyJul 07, 2009
By doubleganger
Overall it's a great light. Nice and bright. There are a couple of things I would have done differently though. My main complaint is that I wish it turned on at the lowest level and then went to medium then high. If you turn a light on in a dark room most of the time all you will need is low and higher than that is just too much light. I could do without the strobe and sos functions and just have the light cycle through low..med..high..low..med..high. Or have a slower flash instead of the strobe to preserve the battery. Also, I don't care for the holster. I would prefer one that completely enclosed the light with a Velcro flap. With the included holster the light is held only by elastic pressure on the sides and elastic will always eventually become weaker. (edit: after using the holster I've confirmed that it's a POS) One other thing. I knew it was black when I ordered it but I'd much prefer a brighter color. To me a light is survival gear and black is just too easy to lose if dropped. Lastly, I've seen mentioned on a forum that the keyring hole has broken on some lights. Looking at it I see that it's pretty thin. I may have more comments after I've had the light awhile.

Edit: The more I use this light the better I like it. Upgrading to 5 stars.

Edit2: 8/03/2011 I've had it a couple of years now and REALLY like it. The finish has held up very well especially considering I carry it in my pocket with keys. I attached it to a brightly colored fob (actually a colored squeeze change purse) which makes it easier to find if dropped and easier to find in my pocket. It comes on in the middle brightness and I almost never use the high level. I've gotten used to hiding the light with my hand while switching to low.
